Teams for today and tomorrow!
2nd XI Weekend Roundup

Saturday:
Saturday saw a to defeat for our second team as they travelled to Egerton. Heywood won the toss and elected to field. The homes side managed to put a total of 208 on the board but fell short of batting their 45 overs due to another good bowling performance led by @orawlinson08 who claimed 4-35 and @groganlt30 with 3-22. In reply Heywood could only manage to get to a total of 97 With captain @ste_evsi the highest scorer with 24, which saw the five points go to Egerton.

Sunday:
Sunday had a different feel from the previous day, with the lads determined to write the wrongs from the day before. Heywood once again won the toss but this time elected to bat managing to post 186-3 from their 45 overs, with two incredible batting performances by @aaron_russell06 with 64 off 138 balls and @domfawcett96 with 65 from 58. After lunch, Heywood got off to a great start when they had the visitors 17-3, but credit to Egertons middle order which fought back and had them 158-8. The game was on a knife edge but when the last two Egerton wickets fell cheaply it saw Egerton fall short by just 13 runs allowing Heywood to take the 5 points! A top effort from Heywoods bowling attack who shared the wickets all round.
1st Team Weekend catch up:
Last weekend saw a GMCL first as Heywood played Bury twice in two days, due to the rescheduled fixture that was called off at the start of the season.
Saturday we hosted under new captaincy by @crossy7 , Bury won the toss and elected to bat. There was a delay at the start of the game due to the weather which saw the overs reduced to 46. Bury posted a challenging total of 183-7 from their 46 overs with @rich_slatem the standout bowler with 4-32 from 13 overs. After lunch it was all down to one man @marty33walters , who finished on an unbeaten 103 from 145 balls. Our pro dug deep from ball one despite frequently loosing partners at the other end and taking a blow to the hand early in his innings. With rain around we managed to keep in touch with the DL score, the game grew tighter and tighter with every over that passed. @grogie2811 came to the crease to and played a crucial role in taking the game deep and running well between the wickets to support @marty33walters but when we needed 10 off the last over it was always going to be close. An exhausted @marty33walters managed to take full advantage of the restrictions put on the bowling side due to the slow over rate and pulled off two scoops for 4 in the final over to bring the much needed 5 points home for Heywood. A truly heroic knock from the Pro!

Sunday we travelled to Bury with some minor tweaks to the starting XI Bobby Cross and Marty Walters were missing from the previous game and they were replaced by Dan Ainscough and Caleb Grant, leaving @rich_slatem to skipper the side. Heywood won the toss and elected to bat first on a well-used pitch, and managed to post 184 this time it was a real team effort with knocks by @weshunt_94 (28) @lachycox.03 (26) @sircalebgrant (25) helping along the way. After lunch, the game ebbed and flowed with Heywood getting off to a good start taking some early wickets and had Bury 48-5. And two knocks of 49 (U.Akram) and 48* (M.Hanif) saw Bury chase the total down with one wicket remaining in a very tight game once again, despite our best bowling efforts.
The T20 Quarter Final unfortunately saw the 1st XI fall short of finals day as they were beaten with two balls to spare by @mottramcricket .

Heywood batted first and reached a respectable 149–7 from their 20 overs with @weshunt_94 top scoring with 45 from 40 balls. Heywood then got off to an incredible start with the ball when they had Mottram 39-5 after the powerplay with some incredible catches taken by @weshunt_94 behind the stumps. However, a defiant knock from Liam Tongue who finished on an unbeaten 82 from 49 balls snatched victory away from Heywood with only two balls to spare! Despite another remarkable bowling effort again from @rich_slatem who finished with figures of 4-21 from his 4 overs.

The two teams shared some well earned beers after the game which was a joy to see after a great battle on the pitch! We wish @mottramcricket all the best on finals day.
